Naval personnel held 05 persons who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off the Round Island yesterday (13th May).
A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during routine patrol in the seas off the Round Island, apprehended these persons for engaging in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. The Navy also took 01 dinghy, 01 outboard motor (OBM), a 225m long fishing net and 60.7kg of illegally caught fish. The suspects are residents of Kinniya, from 31 to 44 years of age.
The apprehended persons, dinghy, OBM, unauthorized net, stock of fish and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Trincomalee for onward action, through Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
