Commander of the Navy attends closing ceremony of AMAN-17 in Pakistan
 

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne attended the closing ceremony of the Naval Exercise AMAN -17 in Karachi, Pakistan yesterday (14). The AMAN exercise which is held every alternate year, conducted for the successful fifth time this year. The Commander of the Navy was also invited to attend this year’s exercise as one of the Chief Guests.

The International Fleet Review (IFR) held as part of the closing ceremony was graced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Hon. Nawaz Sharif as the Chief Guest. Nine of the participating countries took part in this IFR with their naval assets. The Sri Lanka Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel, SLNS Samudura also took part in that event. Apart from that, visiting countries such as Australia, China, Indonesia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Japan and Russia demonstrated surface and missile firing, refuelling and ship salute at this Fleet Review. The AMAN -17 exercise which was held for 5 consecutive days, commenced on 10th February.
