Three Sri Lankan fishing trawlers released from Indian custody
 

Three (03) Sri Lankan fishing trawlers arrested by the Indian Coast Guard for trespassing into the Indian territorial waters, were released form Indian custody yesterday (14 December). Signifying the goodwill between the two countries the trawlers were repatriated to Sri Lanka, with the assistance of Sri Lanka Coast Guard.

The repatriation of trawlers took place at the IMBL north of Kankesanthurei. An Offshore Patrol Vessel of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Ameeya’ were deployed for this mission. Having escorted the fishing trawlers to the Kankesanthurei harbour, they were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna. These fishing trawlers had been arrested in Nagapatnam seas, India in 2015 and 2017.
