Navy assists transfer of ill fisherman rescued through coordination of MRCC Colombo
The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an ill fisherman, who was aboard a local multi day fishing trawler on the high seas south-west of Sri Lanka, about 881 nautical miles (1631km) off Dondra. Initially, the fisherman was retrieved by a Merchant Vessel in the sea area, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore today (15th October 2024), he was rushed to the National Hospital of Colombo, for medical attention.

Navy mobilizes resources to support communities affected by flood
Due to the heavy rainfall caused by adverse weather conditions affecting the island, several areas in the Western and Northwestern Provinces are experiencing floods. To assist those impacted, 07 Navy flood relief teams are engaged in relief operations in those areas as of today (15th October 2024). Working in coordination with the Disaster Management Center (DMC), Navy flood relief teams are continuously carrying out relief efforts in the Gampaha, Colombo and Puttalam districts.

Navy flood relief teams intensify operations amid adverse weather
Due to the heavy rainfall caused by adverse weather conditions affecting the island, several areas in the Western and Northwestern Provinces are experiencing flooding. To assist those impacted, 08 Navy flood relief teams have been dispatched to the Gampaha, Colombo and Puttalam districts, working in coordination with the Disaster Management Center (DMC). The Navy deployed 06 flood relief teams today (12th October 2024) across various areas in the Gampaha and Colombo districts of the Western Province. These teams were sent to aid communities affected by heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.

Navy apprehends 04 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in eastern waters
A special operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy on 09th October 2024 led to the apprehension of 04 persons who engaged in illegal fishing without valid fishing passes. During the operation, the Navy also seized one (01) dinghy as well as fishing gear used for this illegal fishing practice.

Four (04) Indian trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters intercepted
The Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard intercepted 04 Indian trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters and apprehended 21 Indian fishermen, during a special operation conducted off the Delft Island on 09th October 2024.

A suspect held with about 600,000 capsules of prescription drugs
A search operation conducted by the Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF) led to the arrest of a suspect (01) with about six hundred thousand (600,000) capsules of prescription drugs which were being transferred to sell. The coordinated operation, which also resulted in the seizure of a lorry used to peddle drugs, was mounted in the Borella area on 09th October 2024.

Navy apprehends 02 suspects and seizes 1084kg of fish suspected to be caught using explosives
A search operation conducted by the Navy in the beach vicinity of Nilaveli, Trincomalee on 07th October 2024 , resulted in the arrest of 02 suspects and seized 01 dinghy and about 1084kg of fish, suspected to be caught using commercial explosives.

A suspect nabbed in Karuwalagaswewa while transferring 2020 foreign fags
In a coordinated operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF), a suspect was arrested with 2020 foreign cigarettes being carried in a bus. The raid took place in Karuwalagaswewa of Puttalam, on 05th October 2024.
