The Sri Lanka Navy swiftly responded to bring ashore an ill fisherman and transfer him to hospital, for urgent medical attention this morning (19 Jan 25). The fisherman was aboard a multiday fishing trawler on the high seas off the south coast and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo coordinated the retrieval of the fisherman.

In a coordinated search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy, with the assistance of Police, seized a significant stock (approx. 617kg) of Kendu leaves and a cab (01) in the Kudawa area of Kalpitiya on 14 Jan 26.

During a search operation conducted in the sea area of Kachchativu, Jaffna on 14 Jan 26, the Sri Lanka Navy thwarted a smuggling racket involving 237 pet birds and apprehended 03 suspects and a dinghy employed for this illegal act.

In an operation on 13 Jan 26, the Sri Lanka Navy held five (05) dinghies, loaded with illegally mined sand along the Mahaweli River, near the Upparu Bridge.

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of about 621kg of Kendu leaves, during a search operation carried out in the sea area off Negombo on 12 Jan 26.

During a search operation conducted in the Kandakkuliya sea area of Kalpitiya on 12 Jan 26, the Navy took hold of a stock of 108,480 pharmaceutical tablets, attempted to be smuggled into the country.

During an operation conducted in the dark hours of 12 Jan 26, the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard seized an Indian fishing boat (01) and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, off the Delft Island, Jaffna.

In separate operations conducted by the Navy from 06 to 11 Jan 26, thirteen (13) individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were apprehended along with 04 dinghies in multiple locations across the island.

The Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Police Special Task Force (STF), apprehended one (01) suspect in possession of approximately two (02) kg of foreign cannabis during a search operation conducted in the Maradankerni area of Jaffna on 09 Jan 26.

During a coordinated operation mounted on 08 Jan 26 in the Aluthkade area of Colombo, the Sri Lanka Navy and Police apprehended 02 individuals in possession of about 1560 foreign cigarettes.
