1,159th Navy-built RO plant opens for community use in Mihintale
The 1,159th Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant established by the Sri Lanka Navy in the village of Katukeliyawa, Mihintale, was declared open on 5 August 2026.
The facility was established under the Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) project, with the Ministry of Health providing guidance, financial support from the Presidential Secretariat and technical expertise from the Navy.
The newly opened RO plant is expected to significantly improve access to safe drinking water for a large number of residents in the area.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy said it will continue to support community welfare programmes aimed at improving access to safe drinking water for people in need.
