Bomb disposal experts earn EOD certificates

The Insignia and Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Qualifying Course No. 07 was held today, 03 August 2026 at the EOD Training School in Maho. The occasion was graced by the Commandant Naval Infantry, Rear Admiral Kusala Dissanayake, as the Chief Guest.

A total of 23 naval personnel successfully completed the course held from 26 January to 02 August. Recognizing outstanding performances, Lieutenant Thilina Pieris was awarded the trophy for Best EOD Officer, while Leading Seaman (Marine) IGSS Gnanarathna received the trophy for Best EOD Sailor. In addition, Able Infantryman HCI Fernando was recognized with the award for the top performer in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) handling.

The occasion was attended by the Deputy Area Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Commodore Thushara Fernando, Commanding Officer 1st Marine Battalion, Commander Sucharitha Weerathunga, officers, sailors and family members of course participants.
