Naval personnel continue frontline dengue battle

The Navy continued its support for the National Dengue Control Programme on 22 July 2026, joining a multi-agency campaign aimed at curbing the spread of dengue and improving public health.

The initiative is jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police.

On the programme's 17th day, 99 naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command worked alongside Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat officials, Public Health Inspectors and members of the International Red Cross.

Together, they inspected 3,417 premises across Ragama, Mahara, Borella, Panadura, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, Wattala, Gampaha, Ganewatta Korale and Modara, identifying 83 potential mosquito breeding sites.

In parallel with the national programme, the Sri Lanka Navy has continued to conduct environmental inspections across all Naval Commands, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of dengue.
