Navy continues support for national dengue control drive

17 Jul 2026

Stepping up its community engagement, the Navy has deployed personnel to support the ongoing National Dengue Prevention Campaign aimed at curbing the spread of the disease and raising public health awareness in the Western Province.

The national campaign is jointly organised by the 'Clean Sri Lanka' Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police.

The initiative entered its thirteenth day on 16 July 2026. A contingent of 102 naval personnel from the Western Naval Command took part in inspection and related operations alongside Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat staff, Public Health Inspectors and members of the International Red Cross.

As part of these efforts, joint teams inspected a total of 2,978 locations across Modara, Gampaha, Ragama, Borella, Panadura, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, and Wattala. The inspections led to the detection of 63 active dengue mosquito breeding sites.

In parallel with the collaborative external deployment, the Sri Lanka Navy has also implemented internal measures across all its Naval Commands.
