Navy joins hands in national drive to combat dengue menace

05 Jul 2026

Bolstering national public health efforts, the Sri Lanka Navy has deployed its personnel to support a dengue prevention campaign rolling out from 05 to 12 July 2026. This collaborative initiative is being conducted alongside the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Police.

Aligned with the timely theme “Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo,” a dedicated contingent of naval personnel from the Western Naval Command joined forces with the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Offices to inspect and clean high-risk areas across Modara, Mattakkuliya, Wanathamulla in Borella, Panadura, Narahenpita, Mahara, and Wattala.

Simultaneously, other Naval Commands across the island launched parallel cleanup campaigns within their respective jurisdictions, rigorously inspecting local ecosystems and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites.

In tandem with these community-focused efforts, extensive dengue eradication programmes were also carried out within the naval bases. The Sri Lanka Navy remains steadfastly committed to providing continuous manpower and resources to country-wide initiatives aimed at wiping out the deadly menace and ensuring public safety.
