Navy supports National Dengue Control Programme
The Sri Lanka Navy continues to support the National Dengue Control Programme, contributing personnel to wider efforts aimed at safeguarding public health and curbing the spread of dengue.
The National Dengue Control Programme is jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police.
On 21 July 2026, marking the 16th day of the programme, 97 naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command joined Medical Officers of Health (MOH), Divisional Secretariat officials, Public Health Inspectors and members of the International Red Cross in carrying out dengue prevention activities.
As part of the operation, 3,289 premises were inspected in Ragama, Mahara, Borella, Panadura, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, Wattala, Gampaha, Ganewatta Korale and Modara. During the inspections, 62 potential dengue mosquito breeding sites were identified.
In parallel with the national programme, the Sri Lanka Navy continues to conduct environmental inspections across all Naval Commands and follow-up cleaning and elimination measures carried to prevent the spread of dengue.
