World Hydrography Day celebrated with hands-on training programme

In celebration of World Hydrography Day, which was marked on 21 June, the Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka National Hydrographic Office, conducted a hydrographic field training programme on 23 and 24 Jun 26, at the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour.

The collaborative initiative brought together 112 undergraduates from prominent academic institutions across the island, including General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (Sooriyawewa), the University of Ruhuna, the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, the University of Sabaragamuwa, the University of Colombo, the Wayamba University, the Uva Wellassa University, CINEC Campus, and the MSTI Maritime Academy.

The training programme offered these aspiring professionals a valuable opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience with modern hydrographic survey equipment, thereby enhancing their understanding of hydrography and its vital role.
