Navy conducts coastal cleanup to mark National Marine Resources Conservation Week

The Sri Lanka Navy launched a beach cleanup programme today, 25 September 2026, centering on the Southeastern Naval Command. The initiative coincides with National Marine Resources Conservation Week, organised jointly by the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat and the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA).

As part of the programme, naval personnel and local stakeholders carried out a major clearing operation at the Whisky Point beach in Pottuvil. Participants removed collected waste and plastic debris along the shoreline to help restore and protect the local coastal ecosystem.
