Naval search operations seize smuggled stock of dried ginger in Mannar

The Navy seized a smuggled stock of dried ginger, during separate search operations in the coastal areas of Naruvilikkulam and Vankalai, Mannar area on 24 August 2026.

The operation was conducted by personnel from SLNS Pussadewa, under the North Central Naval Command, along the coastal areas of Naruvilikkulam and Vankalai. Accordingly, 2 suspicious sacks found in the beach vicinity were inspected, leading to the recovery of more than 240kg of dried ginger.

The seized consignment, which is suspected to have been smuggled and left behind by smugglers due to heightened naval surveillance, was handed over to the Murukkan and Vankalai police stations for onward legal action.
