Smuggled consignment of Kendu leaves seized in Puttalam

The Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Police, seized more than 800kg of smuggled Kendu leaves and a lorry during a search operation at Daluwa Beach in Puttalam on 24 July 2026.

The coordinated operation was carried out by naval personnel attached to SLNS Thambapanni of the North Western Naval Command and the Norochcholai Police. During the search, they inspected a suspicious lorry and discovered this haul of Kendu leaves in 20 sacks. The consignment is believed to have been smuggled into the country and was being prepared for transportation.

The seized stock of Kendu leaves and the lorry were handed over to the Norochcholai Police for onward legal proceedings.
