Suspect arrested in Kalpitiya with prescription drugs and Kendu leaves

A coordinated search operation mounted by the Navy along with the Police on 19 July 2026 led to the arrest of a suspect (1) with a large stock of prescription drugs and Kendu leaves in the Janasavipura area in Kalpitiya.

Based on credible information naval personnel from SLNS Vijaya, under the Northwestern Naval Command, partnered with the Kalpitiya Police to search a suspicious house in the Janasavipura area. During the search, the raiding party recovered 67,640 capsules of prescription drugs alongside roughly 30kg of Kendu leaves, hidden for illegal sale.

The suspect was identified as a 38 year old resident of Kalpitiya. Both the individual and the seized items were handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for formal legal proceedings.
