Navy nabs suspect with fish caught by destructive practice in Muthur

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended a suspect and seized approx. 820kg consignment of fish caught using explosives, during a search operation in Muthur on 9 September 2026.

Acting on credible information received, naval personnel of SLNS Parakumba, together with SLNS Gokanna, in the Eastern Naval Command intercepted and searched a suspicious lorry in the area. The search led to the recovery of this stock of fish suspected to have been caught through illegal blast fishing methods.

The suspect in connection to the incident was identified as a 40 year old resident of Poduwaikattu Senduur area. The individual, lorry, and fish consignment were handed over to the Muthur Police Station, in coordination with the Muthur Fisheries Inspector, for further legal action.
