Awareness programme on empowering women for stronger families and safer society conducted at Navy Headquarters

The Sri Lanka Navy organised an awareness programme for its lady officers and women sailors on 25 August 2026 at the Main Auditorium of Navy Headquarters, focusing on empowering women for stronger families and a safer society. The workshop aimed to empower female naval personnel through expert-led sessions on issues relevant to strengthening families and society.

Gender Consultant Ms. Monika Samaraweera delivered a session on ‘Promoting Gender Equality: Empowering Women for Stronger Families and Society’. Prof. Anusha Edirisinghe from the Department of Sociology, University of Kelaniya addressed ‘Responding to Workplace and Domestic Abuse: Creating a Safe Environment for All’. Dr. Bhagya Abeysinghe, President of the Sri Lanka Professional Psychological Counselors' Association conducted a session on ‘Women’s Personal Hygiene: Its Role in Promoting Family Well-being and Happiness’.

The workshop was attended by Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera, Director General Personnel, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Premarathna, senior officers, lady officers and women sailors.
