Deputy Minister of Defence Reviews Navy’s Security and Operational Readiness

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), paid an official visit to the Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters at Defence Headquarters Complex (DHQC) on 18 August.

Upon arrival, the Deputy Minister was received by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando. During the visit, the Commander of the Navy and senior naval officers briefed the Deputy Minister on the Navy’s ongoing operational activities, current progress and measures undertaken to safeguard the island and strengthen national security.

The comprehensive briefing covered the Navy’s role in maintaining maritime security around the island, and the modern tactical and strategic methodologies employed to counter and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating through maritime routes.

The briefing also highlighted the extensive and uninterrupted operational network maintained by the Sri Lanka Navy across the country’s maritime domain, with available resources and personnel being deployed to address emerging security challenges and safeguard national interests.

Addressing the senior naval officers, the Deputy Minister of Defence, on behalf of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, commended the Sri Lanka Navy for its continued commitment and successful operational efforts, particularly in countering drug trafficking at sea and contributing to the protection of the nation.

The Chief of Staff of the Navy and senior naval officers were also present on the occasion.
