Navy joins ‘Aththama’ National Cleanliness Day programme

The Navy conducted a series of cleaning programmes across the island today, 8 August 2026 as part of the ‘Aththama’ National Cleanliness Day, held under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national initiative.

Cleaning activities were carried out at the Ragama Teaching Hospital premises, the children’s playground at the Anderson Apartment Complex in Narahenpita, Mundalama Divisional Secretariat premises, Wanathawilluwa Children’s Park, Silawathura District Hospital premises and the Mannar District General Hospital and Divisional Secretariat premises.

The Navy also conducted clean-up activities at Kiran Ramakrishna Primary School in Batticaloa, Kadiraveli beach, Thiriya Rural Hospital, Mullaitivu General Hospital, and areas around Jaffna Fort. Coastal areas in Veththalakerni, Madagalthurai and Keerimale were also included in the programme.

As part of the initiative, naval personnel, with community participation, removed accumulated solid waste, including polythene and paper, as well as other discarded materials. The collected waste was segregated and disposed of using appropriate methods to minimise its impact on the environment.
