Sri Lanka Navy Chief meets with Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Naval Command of Indian Navy

The Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando met with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Navy’s Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, during his three-day official visit to India, following an invitation from the Indian Navy.

The meeting with Vice Admiral Saxena took place on 29 August 2026 at the headquarters of the Indian Navy’s Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala. Their cordial discussion focused on a range of matters of bilateral importance, including joint training exchanges, capacity building and strengthening maritime security cooperation between the two navies.

During the visit, Vice Admiral Fernando also toured training facilities of the Indian Navy’s Southern Naval Command and met Sri Lanka Navy personnel undergoing training at its training schools. He exchanged views with the personnel on their training and related matters. Vice Admiral Fernando also visited INS Dronacharya, the Indian Navy’s training establishment where he completed the Long Gunnery Specialization course in 2002.
