Navy assists national campaign to curb dengue outbreak

The Navy has deployed personnel to support the national dengue prevention campaign, aimed at eradicating breeding sites across the Colombo district and surrounding areas.

The initiative is being conducted in partnership with the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police.

On 15 July, the campaign completed its 12th consecutive day of operations. Eighty-eight (88) naval personnel from the Western Naval Command partnered with Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat staff, Public Health Inspectors, and members of the International Red Cross to conduct inspections.

The teams inspected 2,816 properties across several areas, including: Modara, Borella, Gampaha, Ragama, Wattala, Narahapitiya, Kelaniya, Mahara, and Panadura. During these inspections, teams identified 111 active dengue mosquito breeding sites, which were promptly treated or cleared.

Alongside its contributions to the public campaign, the Sri Lanka Navy has launched internal cleanup operations across all Naval Commands.
