Navy continues support for dengue prevention drive

09 Jul 2026

The Navy has provided continued support to the national dengue prevention campaign on its fifth consecutive day, assisting in inspection and awareness efforts across Colombo and its suburbs.

The initiative, held under the theme "Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo," is jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police. The campaign aims to curb the spread of dengue fever and promote public health standards.

A team of 77 naval personnel from the Western Naval Command took part in the operations on 9 July 2026. They worked alongside Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat officials, Public Health Inspectors, and members of the International Red Cross.

Teams inspected 60 locations across Borella, Kotte, Mahara, Panadura, Wattala, Mutwal and Thibirigasyaya identifying 1,796 potential mosquito breeding sites. Officials also conducted 101 awareness sessions for local residents to explain effective dengue prevention methods.

These cleaning and inspection programmes will continue systematically to eliminate breeding grounds and maintain mosquito-free zones in high-risk areas.
