Navy continues to support national dengue prevention drive
The Sri Lanka Navy has deployed personnel to assist the national dengue prevention campaign aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in Colombo and surrounding areas.
Working under the theme "Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo," the initiative is a collaborative effort between the "Clean Sri Lanka" Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police. The Navy's active participation in the campaign entered its ninth consecutive day on 13 July 2026.
A contingent of 59 naval personnel from the Western Naval Command joined local Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat staff and Public Health Inspectors to carry out the inspections.
Teams inspected a total of 1,158 locations across Kotte, Ragama, Kelaniya, and Gampaha. During these operations, authorities identified 19 properties with active dengue breeding sites, prompting legal action against the owners.
Alongside the inspections, naval personnel helped clear waste and eliminate potential breeding grounds in public spaces. Similar dengue prevention programmes are also being conducted across Naval Commands to ensure naval bases and surrounding installations remain free of dengue.
