Navy persists with unwavering battle against dengue

The Sri Lanka Navy has deployed personnel to support a national anti-dengue campaign aimed at curbing the spread of the virus and securing public health in Colombo and surrounding areas.

Organised by the 'Clean Sri Lanka' Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police, the programme focuses on controlling mosquito breeding and raising public health awareness.

On 17 July 2026, the fourteenth day of the campaign, 108 personnel from the Western Naval Command participated in inspection and related operations. The naval team worked alongside Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat officials, Public Health Inspectors, and members of the International Red Cross.

During the joint operations, teams inspected 3,063 locations across Modara, Gampaha, Ragama, Borella, Mahara, Panadura, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, and Wattala. They identified 60 active dengue mosquito breeding sites during the day's deployments.

In parallel with the regional efforts, the Navy has implemented internal cleaning programmes across all Naval Commands.
