New accommodation building opens for naval recruits at SLNS Nipuna

A new accommodation building designed to improve the living standards of naval recruits was declared opened at SLNS Nipuna in the Southern Naval Command.

The Commander Southern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana, officially inaugurated the facility on 16 July 2026. Drawing entirely on the technical know-how of its engineering departments and able manpower, the Navy brought the project to fruition. Upon its unveiling, Rear Admiral Wijewardana lauded the dedication of the naval personnel involved in the construction effort.

The new facility aims to provide a safe and structured living environment for recruits undergoing training. The project is part of an ongoing welfare initiative to upgrade infrastructure and living standards for naval personnel.

Senior officers from the Southern Naval Command and a group of naval personnel also attended the event.
