Navy backs 'Aththama' national cleanliness programme with cleanup drives
The Sri Lanka Navy carried out a series of environmental conservation and cleanup programmes across the country on 31 October 2026, supporting the 'Aththama' national cleanliness programme under 'Clean Sri Lanka' initiative.
Naval personnel from the Western, Southern, Northwestern, Southeastern and Northern Naval Commands deployed teams for the successful conduct of these events. The nationwide drive targeted public spaces, schools, religious sites and water resources.
Naval personnel cleaned the Kadawatha urban area, the Moragolla Public Health Inspector's office, the Nawaloka Udyanapura children’s park, village tanks in Vitharandeniya and Weeraketiya, the Musali National School grounds of Silawathura, the Patuwewa area in Wanathavilluwa, the Ilanthandiya beach, a canal in Mundalama South, the Seththaakulam coastal stretch in Jaffna and the Jaffna District Secretariat premises.
In addition to clean up drives, naval personnel planted trees along the roadside near the Neelagiri Viharaya in Lahugala. Accumulated solid waste, including plastics and polythene, was sorted and disposed, ensuring ecological safety.
