CBRN emergency response exercise at SLNS Rangalla

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted a training exercise responding to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) emergencies at SLNS Rangalla in Colombo today, 30 October 2026.

The programme was organised by the CBRN Unit of the Western Naval Command to strengthen national emergency response capabilities and technical coordination during hazardous incidents. Representatives from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the National Authority (SLPA) for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) participated in both theoretical and practical training modules.

The theoretical sessions covered hazard detection, identification protocols, safety standards and casualty rescue techniques. During the practical phase, participants practiced the use of protective gear, conducting safe evacuations and handling hazardous chemical containment procedures.
