Navy conducts ISPS security exercise at Galle Port

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted an International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) exercise at the Galle Port premises today, 8 October 2026.

The exercise included practical activities to prevent unauthorised persons from illegally entering the port, as well as to detect and control such incidents. It also covered the detection of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards and the provision of a rapid and coordinated response to a terrorist attack. In addition, theoretical awareness sessions were conducted on relevant security measures and emergency response procedures.

The exercise was aimed at strengthening inter-agency coordination among stakeholders responsible for the security of Galle Port, improving their ability to respond rapidly to emergencies and enhancing the practical implementation of security measures.The exercise also served as a measure to maintain security preparedness at Galle Port in line with the objectives and requirements of the ISPS Code.

The Firefighting Unit, CBRN Unit and Bomb Disposal Unit of the Southern Naval Command provided active instructional contribution and participated in the proceedings. Representatives of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Port Police Unit of the Sri Lanka Police also participated in the exercise.
