INS Udaygiri crew joins hands with Sri Lanka Navy in beach cleaning drive

Crew members from the visiting Indian Naval Ship (INS) Udaygiri joined personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy to conduct a beach cleanup along the Galle Face promenade in Colombo today, 10 September 2026.

The environmental initiative was organised as part of a series of goodwill events aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two navies during the vessel's official visit to the island. The effort carried out by personnel of the Western Naval Command with INS Udaygiri crew members saw collection of a significant amount of non-biodegradable waste, including plastic and polythene litter, scattered along the shoreline.

The Sri Lanka Navy subsequently arranged for the proper disposal of the collected waste to prevent further environmental harm to the coastal area.
