Navy conducts coastal clean-up drive

The Sri Lanka Navy organized a series of coastal clean-up programmes across multiple Naval Commands today, 23 September 2026.

The initiative was conducted coinciding with National Marine Resources Conservation Week set in motion by the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat and the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA).

Accordingly, the Navy extended its contribution to these beach cleanup programmes, conducted in collaboration with other stakeholders. The efforts focused on the Cod Bay coastal stretch in Trincomalee under the Eastern Naval Command, the Thondamanaru shoreline of Point Pedro under the Northern Naval Command, the Nadukuda sands in Mannar under the North Central Naval Command, and the Akkaraipattu coastal belt in Ampara under the South-Eastern Naval Command.
