Navy empowers fishing communities with life-saving first aid skills
As part of its Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) initiatives, the Sri Lanka Navy conducted a Fishermen Training Programme and a Healthy Lifestyle Centre screening camp at Cod Bay Fisheries Harbour, Trincomalee on 15 September, along with a training programme at Poonachchimallei on 2 September.
The events were conducted under the guidance of the Commander Eastern Naval Area, and organised by medical personnel of the Eastern Naval Command Hospital with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
The programme covered Basic Life Support and emergency preparedness through practical first aid demonstrations, screening for Non-Communicable Diseases including hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular risks, and awareness sessions on substance abuse prevention and mental health.
The initiative underscores the Navy's dedication to safeguarding the livelihoods, well-being and safety of the fishing community along Sri Lanka's eastern coast.
