Navy leads coastal cleanup during National Marine Resources Conservation Week

In parallel with the 'National Maritime Resources Conservation Week' national programme, organised jointly by the 'Clean Sri Lanka' Secretariat and the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), a series of beach cleanup programmes organised by the Sri Lanka Navy was held today, 24 September 2026, focusing on the Northern and Southeastern Naval Commands.

Accordingly, the Navy extended its community service contribution to these beach cleanup programmes conducted in collaboration with other stakeholders. Under the Northern Naval Command, cleanup efforts focused on the Urathivu beach strip on Pungudutivu island, Veththalakerni Aliyaveli, and the Kalmunai and Vinayasodi beach strips. Under the Southeastern Naval Command, the programme covered the Arugam Bay beach strip in Ampara.
