Sri Lanka Navy rescues stranded individual off Talaimannar

The Sri Lanka Navy, during its routine maritime surveillance and patrol operations, today, 11 September 2026, provided urgent humanitarian assistance to an individual, found stranded on a remote sandbank off Thalaimannar.

The individual, who is a youth aged 17, was detected by naval personnel from SLNS Thammanna belonging to the North Central Naval Command during naval patrols. Upon identifying the distressed youth, the Navy immediately provided him with safe drinking water, food and temporary shelter.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that he had travelled from south India. Meanwhile, the youth was subsequently handed over to the Talaimannar Police station for onward action.
