NAVY CLINCH LEAGUE RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP

In a spectacular performance that created history, Navy Sports Club beat Kandy Sports Club 34 – 18 in the much anticipated Dialog "A" Division rugby league 2nd round match, which was worked off at the Welisara Navy Grounds on 15th February 2014. His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady, Madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa also graced the occasion to witness the SLN's grand victory. Minister of Co-operatives and Internal Trade, Hon. Johnston Fernando, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Srima Colombage, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Director General of the Sri Lanka Cost Guard, Director Naval Sports and senior naval officers were among the spectators that had turned up in great numbers to see the Navy being crowned as League Champions, a milestone event in the SLN's ruby annals.

Navy's points came off from 04 goals and 02 penalties in a fine display of skill and talent. The last year's runners-up, Kandy had to be contented with only 03 tries and 01 penalty in reply to the SLN's dazzling performance.

His Excellency the President and the First Lady were very much pleased to witness their three sons, Namal, Yoshitha and Rohitha's contribution to the Navy's historic victory. Their constant parental blessings have been the inspiration of the Trio who have kept the Navy's winning momentum intact throughout with their excellent performances, teamwork and spirit of camaraderie. Commander of the Navy, the tower of strength behind the SLN's success, extending all the support, guidance and advice from Day One, congratulated all the players and officials for achieving such a gigantic win that has made the whole Navy proud.
