CISM Day Run 2014

The CISM Day Run 2014 organized by the Sri Lanka Navy under the guidance of Defence Services Sports Board, chaired currently by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Chief of Staff of the Navy and Chairman, Defence Services Games, Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera and Secretary, Defence Services Sports Board and International Military Sports Council Sri Lanka Representative Commodore Dushyantha Amaranayake was held on 16th February 2014.

Three hundred tri-service personnel headed by respective Commanders participated in the mega event which was flagged off in front of the Colombo Lighthouse. The run covered a distance of 04 kilometers and all competitors received certificates which were presented by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage and Chief of Staff of Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Kolitha Gunathilaka on completion of their run.

The event was conducted under the aegis of Brussels-based International Military Sports Council (Conscil International du Sport Militaire - CISM) with the aim of promoting the practice of sports in the military context. Totally integrated in CISM solidarity principles, the event also helps disseminate the CISM motto, “Friendship through Sport”, among the millions of soldiers of the 133 CISM member nations.
