Sri Lanka Navy takes part in Deyata Kirula 2014

First Lady Madam Shiranthi Wickremasinghe Rajapaksa visited the SLN's exhibition stalls at "Deyata Kirula 2014" in Kuliyapitiya on 21st February 2014. She was warmly received by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage. President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Srima Colombage, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera, Commander North Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral NKD Nanayakkara and senior naval officers were also present on the occasion.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for Sri Lanka Navy to take part in the National Development Exhibition which is being held on a grand scale. The Navy exhibition stall depicts the activities of the Sri Lanka Navy and is full of exhibits showing its capabilities and achievements. The entrance, modeled as Navy’s Landing Ship Tank, SLNS Shakthi with its open bow door gives visitors the unique feeling of boarding a ship through the LST’s impressive ramp. Naval craft, navigational equipment and maritime weapon systems are also on display in the Navy’s stall. Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Gun Boat, Udara is among the attractions along with a ship simulator that gives hands-on experience in navigating a ship in a virtual environment.

Those who wish to join the Navy are able to obtain relevant information at the recruitment stall located at the exhibition site. Sri Lanka Navy’s elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) also have exhibition stalls adding glamour to the mega event. Navy Riding Pool also conducts special performances for the benefit of the visitors.
