SLN facilitates Palaithivu Church Festival

Sri Lanka Navy facilitated the conduct of the annual festival of the St. Anthony’s Church located on the Palaithivu Island. The main mass was conducted by Bishop of Jaffna, Rev. Dr. Thomas Savundranayagam on 23^rd March 2014. A total of 8,380 devotees including clergy attended the event.

Under the instructions of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake, Sri Lanka Navy provided all the facilities including electricity and drinking water for the festival. An SLN landing craft was also deployed to assist the transfer of devotes, required items and equipment to the island. Special SLN life saving and medical teams were deployed to ensure the safety of the devotees attending the annual festival held for 07 days.
