Navy renovates the Vihara Mandiraya & constructs a Museum for Nagadeepa Viharaya
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage declared open the newly-constructed museum at the Nagadeepa Purana Raja Maha Viharaya on 03rd April 2014. The “Vihara Mandiraya”, renovated by the Navy for the resident monks at the historic temple, was declared open by Governor of the Northern Province, Major General (retd) Hon. GA Chandrasiri. Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake and a large number of devotees were also present on the occasion.
As part of its social responsibility projects, the meritorious acts were carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy utilizing the financial donations of the devotees in memory of the former Chief Incumbent of the temple, the Most Venerable Brahammanawatte Dhammakitti Tissa Maha Nayaka Thero. The renovation and the construction were done under the supervision of the Commander Northern Naval Area on the guidance of Chief Sanganayake of the Northern Province & present Chief Incumbent of the Nagadeepa Purana Raja Maha Vihara, Venerable Nawadagala Padumakitti Tissa Nayake Thero.
