Navy Colours Night - 2014
Sri Lanka Navy’s Colours Night - 2014 was held at the Eastern Naval Command’s Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium on 05th April 2014. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Navy Seva Vanitha President, Mrs. Srima Colombage, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Rohan Amarasinghe, Director Naval Sports, Commodore Dushyantha Amarasinghe and senior officers of the Navy were also present on the occasion.
Outstanding sportsmen and women were recognized for their excellence in performance bringing credit to the Navy. Colours were awarded to 404 naval personnel for their achievements at naval command, Defence Services, national and international levels during the years from 2011 to 2013.
Athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, body building, boxing, carrom, cricket, cycling, football, handball, hockey, jetskiing, judo, kabaddi, karate, musketry, Netball, rugby football, rowing, sailing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, tug of war, volleyball, weight lifting, windsurfing, wrestling and wushu were in contention for honours at the mega event.
Under the guidance of Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage and Director Naval Sports, Commodore Dushyantha Amaranayake SLN men and women have shown that they are capable of reigning supreme in the sports arena. Their dedication, commitment and team spirit have enabled them to make their presence felt in all major competitions where the Navy Flag has flown high, signaling sterling performances and a splendid display of talent. At sea or sports, they lead to win. It has been their driving motto to do the great things.
Awards for the Best Sportsman for Year 2011 (Ordinary Seaman DMIC Dissanayake – weight lifting), Year 2012 (Leading Seaman WASR Kumara – Body Building) and Year 2013 (Ordinary Seaman DMIC Dissanayake – weight lifting) were also presented to those who excelled in their sporting event during the designated year. Inter Command Overall Championships were also awarded in recognition of the respective naval command’s achievements at the annual inter command sports tournaments. They were won by the Northern Naval Command for the Year 2011, Western Naval Command and Training Command for the Year 2012 and the Eastern Naval Command for the Year 2013.
Navy cultural troupe provided entertainment to the occasion backed by the Navy Band.
