Sri Lanka Navy takes part in Fifth Anniversary National Victory Parade

The defenders of the ocean, Sri Lanka Navy took part in the fifth anniversary National Victory Parade held under the patronage of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa in Matara on 18th May 2014. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage was also among the dignitaries who graced the historic occasion.
Representing the Sri Lanka Navy, Commodore SMDK Samaraweera rode in the pilot vehicle at the parade. The Naval Contingent comprised of naval personnel constituting the Ceremonial Contingent, the Humanitarian Operation Combat Column and the Mechanized Column. Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Rohan Amarasinghe, Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakodi and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake also took part in the parade. Several divisions including the 4th Fast Attack Craft Flotilla (FAF4), Special Boat Squadron (SBS), women sailors and Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) were also among those participated in the national event.
Sri Lanka Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessels, Samudura and Jayasagara, Landing Ship Tank Shakthi, Fast Missiles Vessels Nandimitra and Suranimala, Fast Gun Boats belongs to 3rd Attack Squadron Prathapa, Udara and Ranajaya, Fast Attack Craft belongs to 4th Attack Squadron and Australian-gifted Patrol Vessel P 350 sailed in formation in the southern seas off Matara paying their tribute as the naval contingent marched past the special dais where the President took the salute of the Armed Forces and the Police. The armoured vehicles, weapons and equipment unique to the Navy were also on display at the parade.
