Second Navy Sport Shooting Championship – 2014 held at SLN Firing Range Complex in Welisara

The second Navy Sport Shooting Championship – 2014 conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the National Sport Shooting Federation was held at the Navy Shooting Complex in Welisara from 09^th to 17^th June 2014. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage graced the prize awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest and gave away the Challenge Trophy to the champions. Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera, Chairmen of the National Sport Shooting Federation Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, Director General Services Rear Admiral Rohan Perera, Director General Civil Engineering Rear Admiral Wipula Jayasinghe, Chairman of the National Rifle Association Rear Admiral Udaya Bandara and Director General Operation Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro gave away the trophies and medals to the winners of the respective events. Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Naval Sports Commodore Meril Sudarshana, Chairmen Navy Musketry Captain Lasantha Gamage and senior officers of the tri-services were also present on the occasion.

Over 200 competitors from renowned shooting clubs in the island including those of the tri-forces and Police competed for the honours. Among the participating teams were the national shooting team from the Maldives and the Sri Lankan contingent of 11 national shooters who are due to take part in the Commonwealth Games. They showcased their exceptional talents and shooting skills, which were on display throughout the competition adding excitement to the event.
