Ordinary Seaman Chandana Wijekoon wins Open Chess Championship
 

Flying the Navy flag high in Sri Lanka’s chess history, Ordinary Seaman Chandana Wijekoon became the Sri Lanka open chess champion at the Sri Lanka Open Chess Championship – 2014 which concluded on 12th June 2014 at Magazine Reception Hall, Colombo.

Sri Lanka Navy chess players entered the tournament determined to win glory for the Navy with the blessings of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage and the guidance of the Chairman of Chess, Captain Udaya Dampage. Ordinary Seaman Chandana overcame the tough challenges posed by the opponents through strategic moves and emerged the champion defeating reputed International and National titled players.
