Commander of the Navy visits Eastern Naval Area

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage visited the Eastern Naval Area from 18th to 19th June 2014. He was accompanied by senior officers attached to the Naval Headquarters. The Navy Commander was received by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Rohan Amarasinghe on arrival.

Addressing the officers of the Eastern Naval Command and the Officer Under Trainees at the ‘Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda’ Auditorium on the evening of 18th, the Commander of the Navy emphasized the importance of becoming a maritime professional. He urged the officers to take on professional challenges as golden opportunities and strive hard to realize one’s full potential. The Navy they serve has offered them many opportunities to acquire qualifications for self improvement. Therefore, the Commander requested them to serve the nation fulfilling their moral obligations and contribute to make strategically located Sri Lanka the naval hub in the Indian Ocean, which is a vital prerequisite for its quest to be the Wonder of Asia. The Commander reminded them of the necessity of upholding the code of conduct and naval values at all times for others to emulate. He emphasized the value of continuous training as a key ingredient for professional success and stated that it will keep them safe at sea as well as on land.

During his visit to the Eastern Naval Area, the Commander of the Navy declared open the newly-constructed engineering school belonging to the NMA building complex and the four-storey building, which houses the MTU workshop, Quality & Testing office and the class rooms for engineering and electrical personnel, at the Naval Dockyard. He also opened the Navy Seva Vanitha welfare shop, which has been shifted to a convenient new location, and the Abans sale outlet that offers electrical and household items on concessionary terms. The Commander also made a fleet inspection and visited the naval ships, Sagara, Suranimila, Shakthi, A543, Hansaya, the naval gun boats, Ranajaya, Edithara II, Jagatha and Weeraya and Fast Attack Craft.
