North Western Naval Command conducts a field health clinic & blood donation campaign
As part of Sri Lanka Navy’s Community development and social responsibility project, a field health clinic was held at Our Lady of Assumption church on 22nd June and a blood donation campaign was held at SLNS Theraputta on 25th June 2014 under the patronage of Commander North Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dayananda Nanayakkara. The events were organized by the Command Medical Department with the assistance of all naval camps to develop community harmony and wellbeing in the North Western Naval Area.
A large number of patients belonging to all ethnic groups in the newly resettled, remote, villages of Pookkulum, Karadakkuli, Kayakkuli and Mullikulum of the Marichchikaddi division in the Mannar district benefited from the clinics. They were treated at primary family health care level. All medicines, laboratory investigations and nutrition supplements were provided free of charge to them.
The blood donation campaign was conducted with the assistance of a medical team from the General Hospitals of Vavuniya and Mannar in view of the “World Blood Donor Day” which fell on 14th June 2014. The campaign was conducted to mark the theme of “Safe blood for saving mothers”, which aims to make Sri Lanka the first country to fulfill 100% of blood transfusion requirement by voluntary donors. A large number of naval personnel voluntarily donated their blood to save the lives of patients in the Northern Province.
