Commander of the Navy visits Southern Naval Area
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera visited the Southern Naval Area on 15th August 2014. He was accompanied by the senior naval officers attached to the Naval Headquarters. On arrival the Navy Commander was received by Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Eric Jayakody and accorded a Token Guard of Honour.
The Navy Commander inspected the infrastructure developments and new constructions at SLNS Nipuna and SLNS Dakshina and addressed the ships’ complements at the naval bases. To mark his visit, the Navy Commander planted a mango sapling at SLNS Dakshina and addressed the naval officers of the Southern Naval Area.
In his address, to the naval officers, the Navy Commander stressed the importance of becoming maritime professionals and maintaining high standards of discipline. He stated that fair and equal opportunities will be provided to all to realize their professional goals. He requested them to serve with dedication, upholding the customs and traditions of the Navy. The Navy Commander also emphasized the need to render all possible assistance to the country’s efforts to become a maritime hub in the region.
