Sri Lanka win a silver medal at World Military Cadet Games in Ecuador
 
 

Creating a milestone in Sri Lanka’s defence services sports, Officer Cadet KDS Perera was able to win the silver medal in the shot put event at the 02nd CISM World Military Cadet Games in Ecuador on 02nd September 2014. Twenty-six countries are taking part in the multi-discipline sports event which draws to a close on the 05th. The Games offer all participants the opportunity of exchanging military training concepts, knowing programs of other military academies, thus paving the way for becoming better cadets, better soldiers and better military leaders.

A contingent of 23 Sri Lankan Officer Cadets is taking part in the mega event, which is conducted every two years to promote world peace by establishing friendship through sport. They met President of the Defence Services Sports Board, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera at the Naval Headquarters and received his blessings prior to their departure for Ecuador where the 02nd World Military Cadet Games are being held. The Officer Cadets representing Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force compete in athletics, swimming and shooting.

The 2nd CISM World Military Cadet Games were ceremonially declared open on 30th August 2014 in Salinas, Ecuador by Minister of Defence of the Republic of Ecuador, Hon. Maria Fernanda Espinoza. Minister of Sports and Recreations, SR. Jose Frasisco, President of the Ecuadorian Military Sports Federation, Vice Admiral Carlos Moncayo Cacereevallos and many senior dignitaries representing International Defence Forces were also present on the occasion.
