Commander of the Navy awards certificates to fishermen bound for South Korean employment

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera awarded the certificates to the first batch of fishermen bound for South Korean employment at SLNS Vidura on 01st September 2014. They successfully completed the fisher refresher course conducted by the Navy as part of its social responsibility project in collaboration with the foreign employment agency, George Steuart.


The 45-day course aims at providing professional knowledge to those who are seeking foreign employment onboard fishing boats under the Korea National Fisheries Federation Cooperative (KNFFC). The course covers a range of subjects that include seamanship, navigation, first aid, fire fighting & fire prevention, fish handling, fishing gear, fish processing, fisheries legislations, job and personal safety. It also includes practical sea training and instructions on the Korean language, culture, customs and law.
