War Heroes commemorated
 
 
 

The main ceremony to commemorate fallen war heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice was held at the Vihara Maha Devi Park today (09th November 2014). The Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne represented the Navy at the ceremony on behalf of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera. A number of senior naval officers and a cross section of naval personnel were also attended the ceremony.

In parallel to the main ceremony to commemorate fallen war heroes, Sri Lanka Navy also held Remembrance Day ceremonies today at the Navy Headquarters in Colombo under the patronage of Director General Health Services Rear Admiral Nicholas Jayasekara and in other naval areas under the patronage of respective Area Commanders and Commanding Officers. All naval personnel attached to all naval establishments, ships and craft participated in these ceremonies to pay tribute to the war heroes. Two minutes’ silence was observed in honour of the war heroes and the Last Post was sung in tribute to their sacrifices.

The memories of the sacrifices you have made shall be the guiding lights

for us to steer ourselves by!
