Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service held in view of 64th Navy anniversary
 

Sri Lanka Navy held a Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Colombo on 24th November 2014 in view of its 64th anniversary. Blessings were invoked on the Navy and the naval personnel during the religious service conducted with the gracious presence of His Excellency Archbishop Pierre Nguyen Van Tot, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Embassy of the Holy See, as the Chief Celebrant. The Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera, Mrs. Shalika Perera, the President of the Navy Christian Council Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dayananda Nanayakkara, senior naval officers and a large number of naval personnel also attended the service.

A special memento of appreciation was presented to Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando at the event in appreciation of the yeoman services rendered by him for the upliftment of the Navy Christian Council during his exemplary tenure spanning 25 years. Rear Admiral Fernando’s contribution had been immense for the founding of the Christian Council in the Navy in 1990 and its growth. He has had the rare privilege of holding the posts of founding Secretary, Vice President, Senior Vice President and President of the Navy Christian Council.
