Religious ceremonies held at Dalada Maligawa in view of SLN’s 64th Anniversary

In view of the Sri Lanka Navy’s 64th anniversary, religious ceremonies were held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on 08th and 09th December 2014 with the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera, Mrs. Shalika Perera, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, senior naval officers, sailors and their family members in attendance. The Commander of the Navy also called on the Mahanayakas of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters to receive their blessings for the anniversary celebrations.

The religious ceremonies commenced with a “Gilanpasa Pooja” held on the 08th evening. An alms giving to 25 monks was also held on the following day to bestow merit on the naval personnel and their families. Fallen comrades who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to safeguard the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland were also remembered with gratitude and merits were invoked on them.

Making a special offering to coincide with the religious function, the Commander of Navy donated a deep- freezer to the Dalada Maligawa.
